That said, you may also choose to store the belongings you use the least frequently in the back while putting the items you’re going to be taking out the most often near the front. The most important thing is considering the belongings you have and determining what organizing style will make things most comfortable for you when you come back.
Create a Map or Inventory
Depending on how many items you choose to store in your unit, you may not be able to remember all of them off the top of your head. For this reason, it’s a good idea to create a list of everything. This list should also be organized in some fashion — usually alphabetically — so you can quickly determine whether or not a specific item is in the unit.

Label Your Boxes
While a map or inventory is essential for getting a good overview of what’s in your storage unit, it’s also necessary to make sure you can navigate the storage unit. While a map can be useful for this, it won’t help you if a box has been accidentally misplaced. Labeling makes sure you’re able to know what’s in a specific box without having to dig through all of them.
Depending on what you’re storing, you may also want to use a clear box instead of a cardboard box. This allows you to see what’s inside the box more easily.
